Ruth is jewellery designer and maker, with a passion for creating pieces that are on the edge between contemporary art and commercial design. Inspired by intricate detail and organic forms, the jewellery she creates carries a story and personality, inviting the wearer to make a statement.
Since childhood Ruth has always been enthusiastic maker; “Any birthday or Christmas my family could always expect handmade gifts from me, from jewellery to keyrings, cards and clay ornaments! The most special was a brooch I made for my Grandma. When she passed away we found she had kept it by her bedside, still in its little box. That brooch is now more valuable to me than anything else I own.”
It was after a career in retail management that Ruth’s interest in jewellery became an opportunity to begin on a new path. Having a strong background in the creative field, it was always an area Ruth wanted to return to; “The experience of selling other people's work made me wish that I was the one creating, so I began making and selling simple jewellery pieces in my own time. I was designing, hand-making, and selling at craft fairs, online and in local gift shops. The experience increased my enthusiasm and made me decide to commit to pursuing a career in the jewellery industry.”
Going on to study at Birmingham’s world renowned School Of Jewellery, Ruth has won multiple awards for her designs and collaborated with well know companies like Argos and Weston Beamor to produce her pieces. Together with a strong creative background, she has developed valuable traditional hand skills in silversmithing, drawing and model making, along with advanced knowledge of Computer Aided Design technologies.
Combining a strong retail and customer service background and demonstrating a proven ability to focus and succeed in a competitive environment, Ruth effectively applies her technical knowledge of jewellery manufacture and commercial awareness to the design process, creating pieces of wearable art that make a statement.
With a passion for furthering her skills and embracing new technologies, Ruth has established her own company, embracing the challenges with enthusiasm; “It is important to me to be able to make a living doing something I really love”.
